Welcome
Enjoying vegetable tempura and udon noodles. in Tokyo, Japan (2018)
Welcome to my blog. This is my very first post! Beyond the about page, I wanted to give you some background about why I started this blog. Back in 2015, I had the idea to start documenting my family’s traditional Puerto Rican recipes. I wanted to preserve our cultural legacy and share what I have learned from my Mom, my grandmother, my aunts, and cousins. At the time, I was also dealing with a very busy schedule which included a full-time job, a part-time job, and a long commute. My Mom was also very busy helping my grandmother. She would go every day to visit grandma during the week and I would pick her up every evening. We made stops at various fast food joints to grab dinner and I would also get leftovers from the meal my Mom cooked at grandma’s apartment. This went on for about two years and I did not feel great in my body. I wanted to start cooking more at home and eating better.
By cooking at home, I could know exactly what was in my food and I could adjust the salt content to help with my hypertension. I subscribed to a meal prep box and I had fun posting photos of my creations on Instagram. I was introduced to new spices and flavors. I felt healthier and my creative side had an outlet again! Through my various kitchen experiments, I was able to change my blood lipid profile and I was no longer in the pre-diabetic range in terms of my blood sugar. I did this all while traveling for work and pleasure. I enjoy foods from all over the world and I am excited to share my culinary adventures with you!
